Mat or roll?

A practice mat is studio marley in a pre-cut size: 5.25 feet wide, 5 or 10 feet long, ready to unroll on any firm floor and roll back up after practice. From $114.99 in ProStep or VersaStep finishes, or the Rosco Adagio mat if you want the premium surface at home. No cutting, no tape, no commitment to a layout.

Choose a roll instead when you are covering a whole room, need a custom length, or plan to tape it down and leave it. And remember a mat is a surface, not a subfloor: it adds no cushioning, so keep big jumps for sprung floors or add subfloor tiles underneath.

Common questions

Will the mat slide while I dance?

On a clean, firm floor the weight of the vinyl keeps it planted for barre and center work. If you drill hard turns in one spot, a strip of floor tape on the corners locks it down and peels off clean.

How do I store it?

Rolled, not folded, vinyl side out, somewhere it will not bake in the sun. It flattens again within a day of being unrolled.

Can I use a mat on carpet?

Not directly; marley flexes into the pile and feels unstable. Put rigid tiles down first, then the mat on top.
