Practice Dance Floor Tiles (from $4.65 per tile) are a wood-look surface for general practice, events and ballroom-style work. Both snap together over any flat floor with no glue and no tools, and both pack away between sessions.

Tiles are the right call over carpet, where a marley roll has nothing firm to sit on, and for renters who cannot tape or glue anything down. For a full room of soft-shoe dancing, a cut-to-length marley roll usually costs less per square foot.

Common questions

Do the tiles work on carpet?

Yes, on low-pile carpet. The rigid interlocked surface bridges the pile and stays flat underfoot. On thick plush carpet, expect some flex at the edges; a plywood underlay solves it.

How loud are tap tiles for neighbors?

Tap is percussive by design, so there is real sound. Putting foam subfloor tiles under the tap tiles absorbs a good share of the impact noise that travels through the floor, which is what downstairs neighbors actually hear.

Do I need tools to set them up?

No. Tiles interlock by hand and come apart the same way. A 10 by 10 foot area goes down in well under an hour the first time, faster once you have done it.
