Installation

Roll it out over any hard floor, tape the seams, and dance. The cushioned backing does the rest.

  1. Acclimate the roll

Lay the roll flat in the studio for 24 hours so the vinyl matches the room's temperature and humidity.

Tip · 65-75 and under 60% RH is the sweet spot.

  2. Sweep and dry the floor

Roll the wood-grain marley over any hard, flat surface. The only thing under it should be a clean, dry floor.

  3. Roll it out

Start at the longest wall and unfurl with the grain running the same direction across the room.

Tip · Leave a ⅛" expansion gap at every wall. The vinyl breathes.

  4. Seam and tape

Butt seams tight, run double-sided marley seam tape down each join and perimeter tape around the edges.

  5. Walk it in

Light foot-roll along the seams, then dance as normal. The cushioned backing gives a softer feel underfoot.

Made to last

Care & maintenance

Three quick habits keep the wood-grain finish studio-fresh year after year.

Dust mop

A microfiber dust mop before class catches the grit and rosin that wear down the finish.

Daily

Damp mop

Once a week, run a barely-damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Never vinegar, never bleach.

Weekly

Check the seams

Quarterly, lift the perimeter tape, mop the edges, dry, and re-tape so the floor stays flat.

Quarterly

Do

  • Dust mop daily, before class.
  • Damp mop weekly with a pH-neutral cleaner.
  • Air-dry between cleanings.

Don't

  • Never use vinegar, bleach or floor wax.
  • No steel wool, scouring pads, or steam mops.
  • Don't drag heavy furniture without sliders.
FAQ

Questions, answered

Thinking about wood-grain marley? Here's what dancers ask us most.

How is the price calculated?

Price is per linear foot at a fixed 6 ft (72") width. Pick a color, choose your length in feet, and the page shows your exact total before you add to bag.

What's the minimum and maximum cut?

Minimum is 25 ft; maximum is 45 ft (one full roll). Need more? Order multiple cuts. We can color-match across rolls from the same dye lot.

What is wood-grain marley like?

It's a cushioned, rubber-backed vinyl marley with a printed wood-grain surface: the look of a wood floor with the give of a sprung floor and the easy roll-out of marley. A great portable alternative when you want warmth underfoot.

Can I get an exact length?

Yes, we cut to the foot. If you need half-foot precision, leave a note on your order and we'll honor it. We err generous on cuts, never short.

How long does a custom cut take to ship?

Custom cuts ship in 2-4 weeks from our network of US warehouses, then 2-5 days transit depending on your zone. These ship by freight. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

Can I return a custom-cut roll?

Custom-cut rolls are non-returnable, but we'll always replace defects or shipping damage at no charge. To be sure of the color, order a free sample first.

What's the warranty?

Wood Grain Marley carries a 10-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects under normal studio use. Full terms on the warranty page.
