How to use
Welding thread permanently fuses the seams of compatible marley floors with a hot-air welder — a watertight, gap-free finish for permanent installs.
-
Groove the seam
Once the marley is bonded down, run a grooving tool along the seam between two rolls to cut a clean U-channel.
-
Heat-weld the thread
Load the matching-color weld thread into a hot-air welding gun and feed it along the groove, melting it into the channel.
Tip · Match the thread color to your marley.
-
Trim flush
While the bead is still warm, trim the excess flush with the floor using a spatula knife and trim plate for a smooth, seamless finish.
Tip · Welding is for permanent installs — for portable floors, use seam tape instead.
Questions, answered
Welding marley seams for the first time? Here's the rundown.
What is welding thread for?
It permanently fuses the seams of compatible marley floors. Melted into a grooved seam with a hot-air welder, it creates a watertight, gap-free joint for permanent installs.
Do I need special tools?
Yes — a hot-air welding gun, a grooving tool, and a spatula knife with a trim plate. This is a professional installation accessory.
Which floors is it compatible with?
Made for Rosco marley floors (Adagio, Performance, and similar vinyl). Match the thread color to your floor.
Thread or seam tape — which do I use?
Use welding thread for permanent, bonded installs where you want invisible, sealed seams. For portable or semi-permanent floors, use marley seam tape instead.
How much do I need?
Estimate the total linear footage of your seams and add about 10%. Reach out if you'd like help calculating for a big install.
